I attended the Dulux Colour of the Year 2025 event on Tuesday and really enjoyed it!
In a change to the normal presentations and reveal, the event kicked off with an immersive experience – looking at colour and its link to our senses and feelings.
Particularly fun was the smell experiment. You smelt different scents (eyes closed) and then chose the colour you associated with the smell.

Dulux Colour of the Year 2025 – True Joy!
Let’s dig in. If you haven’t already seen it – the Dulux Colour of the Year 2025 from Dulux is True Joy (40YY 49/546 for those that like the colour reference). This is one bright, zingy yellow!

Predicting Dulux Colour of the Year 2025
First up, I called this colour (yay me). Actually, being completely truthful I thought it would be a punchy orange or a bright yellow. Why?
- the trend in recent years has been for more muted colours so it felt like it was time for something more saturated.
- we’ve seen cooler tones so something warmer seemed due.
- lastly (the biggest clue), Dulux teased with hashtags that referenced #joy. Anyone with a colour psychology background probably guessed it was a yellow or orange at that point.
Key take-aways
One of the biggest take-aways for the Colour of the Year 2025 was that, although they have named one colour of the year, this is more a story about YELLOW in general and not this specific yellow.
Phew. For you, and all of your clients, there’ll be a yellow that works.
The key message, or mood, was being inspired to ‘Just Leap’ and pass on True Joy.
