Busy isn't the same as successful
Brilliant designers still struggle with the business side — that’s not a failing, it’s just the part nobody teaches you. For me, it matters to centre the person running the business, not only the business. You can’t fix the strategy without the confidence, energy and mindset underneath it.
I ran my own interior design studio for 14 years, and spent ten years at Microsoft before that. So when you tell me about a difficult client, a confidence wobble, a fee dispute or a project that’s spiralling, it isn’t theory for me. I’ve been there.
